Standard four relates to professional practice which focuses on the concept of creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environments. The evidence for this standard can be found in my 2013 practical experience visitor notes on the 3/6/13 which was completed after viewing my Year 11 art lesson at North Lakes State College (EDFX313 & EDFX314).
I believe I have demonstrated and practiced this standard within the classroom based on student’s interests in the activities I have implemented for each lesson. This enables me to review student behaviour during activities and ensures continuous learning is achieved in my classroom. In addition to this, I always ensure to provide a clear explanation of the lessons content via dot points at the start of each class. This gives the students an opportunity to concentrate and prepare themselves on what is about to be taught and enables me to get the students settled before the class commences. This will be presented via ICT or written on the whiteboard. I will also provide classroom demonstrations on activities when needed to teach new techniques, especially in art.
My philosophy for teaching does and will always continue to develop in order to teach in an efficient and effective manner. I will achieve this by being open to criticism, new ideas and theories. In addition to this, I strongly believe that lifelong learning requires a supportive and safe environment so students feel comfortable to ask questions and approach me if they have any problems.

EvidenceStandard four relates to supportive and safe learning environment. By implementing this environment I will enable a positive classroom atmosphere which will assist me to maintain excellent classroom and behaviour management. The following lesson plan is evidence of standard four. This evidence was completed by a ACU visitor who attended this lesson during my Prac at North Lakes State College in 2013. The evidence file includes examples for the sub-standards.

During week 3 in our EDFD4452/472 unit we had a speaker talk to us from Cyber Safety talk. This presentation informed us on the current problem of cyber bullying and the effects it can have on students. This taught me about online safety and the ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching.
From this presentation I was very surprised in how many teachers had been caught out for unprofessionalism acts on matters they thought were separate from the work place, however I realise now that as technology advances the distance between our personal lives and our work lives is increasingly becoming smaller. To combat this, I will always need to conduct professionalism online and be vigilant about privacy settings on programs such as Facebook and Instagram. |
